The Ice is Out! Officially declared: Wednesday, April 17, 2013 at 6:53 am

April 16th, 2013
No ice-out yet.  We don't care. We are boating anyway.

April 15th, 2013
No ice in sight.  No ice out either.  Most of the bays are clear, but Alton and Wolfeboro are still locked up.

March 13th, 2013
Some snow on the ground, but the ice is gone from the bay.  The fisherman have wasted no time.

April 12, 2013
Lots of ice foreground.  Open water in the back drop.  About 150 yards out it is all open.  Look closely and you can see a boat out there.

April 11th, 2013
Notice the movement in the ice.  The wind in now blowing the ice in instead of out.  It won't be long now.

April 10th, 2013
More ice than yesterday.  Bad sign?  No, it is good.  The ice is getting mobile.  Once it is mobile, a windy day can sweep it right out of the bay.  Stay tuned.

April 9th, 2013
Dark and getting darker.  Heavy rains last night did some damage. The bay should be clear by the weekend.

April 8th, 2013
This is more like it!  Warm air, dark ice.  It finally feels like Spring.

April 7, 2013
Despite the cold, the ice continues to recede.  Boats will start going in this week.

March 6th, 2013
Bitter Cold.  So why the big change?  The wind is doing all the work.  The fact the ice can be moved by the wind is a sign of weakness.

April 5th, 2013
Getting thinner.  50 degrees and windy.  The left side of the dock is almost all open water.  Stay tuned.

April 4th, 2013
The ice is pulling away from the dock.  A long way to go, but it nice to see a little open water.

April 3rd, 2013
A break in the ice!  Bitter cold, but a stiff west wind is causing some movement in the ice.  Notice the split half way up the dock.

April 2nd, 2013
More freezing than melting last night.  Just above the freezing mark today. Progress?  Little if any.  The ice looks beefier than the day before.

April 1st, 2013
The bob house has been removed or is now at the bottom.  The ice is starting to darken.

March 30th, 2013
Sunny.  In the 50's.  Great melting day.

March 29th, 2013
Check out the lone bob house.  That fisherman is obviously not predicting an early ice-out.

March 27th, 2013

Sorry Ice haters.  No Ice-out record this year.  After having the two earliest ice outs on record over last three years, this year we will experience a "normal" Lake Winnipesaukee Ice out.  The late snow storms provided a nice cozy insulating blanket for the already thick ice.  This is what the ice looked like last year:

March 23rd, 2012

This year looks pretty similar to 2011 and 2008 which had ice outs of April 18th and April 23rd respectively.  Today looks a little more promising than 2008 but the ice has not moved off the dock as much as in 2011.  Temperatures in the 50's over the weekend should accelerate things, but I would expect the ice to go out somewhere between the two dates, leaning toward the 18th.  The Old Man of the Lake says, "Say goodbye to the ice on the 19th.  You can bet your boat on it."  .
