The ice is out...of the bay at least. No official word just yet. Stay tuned.

The right of the bay is clear to Gilford beach. Say your final goodbye to the ice.
April 16, 2011
Look at the "river-like" bands of open water. The bay should clear out any day.
April 15, 2011
Tax Day. These guys must have filed early. 4 boats in the bay, some breaking the 3" of ice to get closer to the fish.
April 14, 2011
The ice is moving. Big chunks shifting around the bay. The phenomenon attracted a small audience. Either that or he dropped his wallet in the water.
Dark and getting darker. Lilly Pond is out. A week away?
April 12, 2011
More heavy rain put the hurt on the ice. If the weather stays nice, ice could be out within 10 days.

I wish this were some kind of April Fools Joke. Let's pretend this never happened and pick this up again on Tuesday.

They are calling for 9' of snow. Pray for rain.

Biggest reason for the difference in ice between this year and last? Average high temperature in March 2011: 41 degrees. 2010: 51 degrees. Ahh.. the good old days.

This winter was, once again, an interesting one. That is if you think living above the artic circle is interesting. Just to depress you, take a look at what the ice looked like last year at this time (below). No record ice out this year (last year was a record breaker on the 24th of March). The only record we have a shot at is the latest ice out, and I doubt there would be much to celebrate with that record. Similar looking years are 2008 (with an ice out of April 23rd) and 2005 (with an ice out of April 20) and 2001 (with an ice out of May 2). The record is May 12th (1888, 1893). The Old Man of the Lake said, "There will be no record breaking this year. April 21st. You can bet your boat on it."
